As a beginner, trying to find a yoga mat can be quite daunting because there are so many different brands and types of mats.
This is true even for those of us who have been practicing for a few years. So, I want to share some yoga mat recommendations many people I know, like and use. My list is strictly a recommendation, I am not being paid by any of these companies and they are not listed in any particular order.
- Manduka “Black mat pro” – www.manduka.comPrices range from $90 and up.
- Lululemon – www.lululemon.comPrices range from $60 and up.
- Jade Yoga – www.jadeyoga.myshopify.comPrices range from $40 and up.
- Lifeforme – www.lifeforme.com/usPrices start around $100 and up.
These are the companies many of the people use at my current yoga studio, however, there are many different brands out there that may have a mat you like better.
Just remember, more money does not necessarily mean a better mat. Some of the mats, can be quite pricey, so visit the “SALE” section of these sites and get a mat on sale to see how you like it.
When I first started practicing yoga, many years ago, I bought a blue mat from Target. I still have it today, however, it isn’t nearly the quality of my Lululemon mat.
As a beginner, you may want to get an inexpensive mat to get a feel for your practice first. Some yoga studios will have mats available that can be used, if you don’t have one, but I would make sure to bring a towel and clean them before using it.
Hope you find this helpful! Happy shopping!
